Four area anglers in good position to qualify for regional tourney
Four familiar Limaland Bass Fishing League (BFL) anglers seem assured of qualifying for regional tourney competition while three others can lock up spots with a decent outing during the season’s final tourney in the Ohio Division.
The top 45 boaters and co-anglers in the region based on point standings, along with the five winners in each qualifying event, earn spots in the regional championship on the Chesapeake Bay in northeast, Maryland, from Oct. 11-13.
The local bassers solidified spots in the points standings after doing well in the T-H Marine FLW BFL event on Mosquito Lake last Sunday.
The four all caught five-bass limits. Cody Seeger, of Bellefontaine, sits fourth in the points standings with 934. His limit, which weighed 10 pounds, 5 ounces, was good enough for 24th place. Dick Shaffer, of Rockford, is seventh with 905 points. His limit of 11 pounds, 5 ounces, gave him a 15h place finish. Kyle Weisenburger, of Ottawa, moved into 13th place with a limit, which weighed 12 pounds, 10 ounces. He has 864 points and finished ninth in the tourney. That trio is all boaters. Co-angler Ron Weisenburger, of Continental, is 18th in the points standings with 716 points. He finished 20th in the tourney with a limit that weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces.
That quartet has qualified for regional competition in the past.
The trio of boaters Jay Ellis, of Celina, and Craig Burwell, of North Baltimore, plus co-angler John Lane, of Findlay, need good showings on Sept. 8 at Indian Lake to qualify for the regional.
Ellis had a tough day at Mosquito with no keeper fish and dropped to 37th in the points standings with 666. Burwell had his best outing of the year by finishing fourth in the tourney with a limit that weighed 14 pounds, 13 ounces. He is 43rd in the points standings with 650. Lane caught one bass that weighed 1 pounds, 5 ounces and was 79th. He sits at 38th in the points standings with 646.
